The Pursuance Of The Strategic Objectives Of South Africa’s Foreign Policy
Including The Advancement Of The African Agenda, The Establishment Of A Rules
Based International System And The Establishment Of Structured Bilateral
Relations Within Which To Pursue The National Interest Are Intrinsically
Interlinked With The Consolidation Of South Africa`s bilateral relations with
the federal republic of Nigeria.
The federal republic of Nigeria Is south Africa`s most important partners on the
African continent in pursuing the vision of an African renewal, a vision shared
by the federal republic of Nigeria as it is a pivotal state that could serve as
an “engine” to pull various continental processes not only in the west African
but on the continent as a whole. With its large population and energy resources
Nigeria is South Africa`s most important trading partner on the continent.
Closer contact and co-operation between South Africa and Nigeria within the
frame work of the South Africa –Nigeria Bi-national Commission in all those
areas where both countries – and ultimately the African continent – stand to
benefit from are to be actively promoted and encouraged.
