GUIDELINES FOR ACCREDITATION OF SCHOOLS OF HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
  1. DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
    1. Head of School must be:
      1. A licensed professional with Higher National Diploma in Health Information Management with ten (10) years working experience.
      2. At least five of these years should be in Training School/ Institution.
      3. The officer must possess Master Degree in Health Information Management, or any of the core courses run in the programme (Statistics, Management Science, Computer Science, Anatomy etc.)
    2. Teaching staff:
      1. A minimum of six (6) licensed officers with Higher National Diploma in Health information Management with at least five (5) years working experience.
      2. A master degree in the area of the officer’s specialization.
      3. Officers must be on full-time contract with the Institution.
    3. Lecture Rooms:
      1. A minimum of four (4) lecture rooms, each with at least fifty seating capacity.
      2. A hall of 150 – 200 seating capacity during examination.
      3. A library equipped with relevant books to the programme, fifty (50) readers capacity.
      4. A computer laboratory equipped with a minimum of twenty-five (25) systems and connected to the internet. Additionally, there should be a printer, photocopying machine and a projector for teaching purpose.
    4. Practicing Area:
      1. Evidence of Affiliation to a Teaching Hospital where the following Health Information Management units exist and functional:
        1. Coding and Indexing with either ICD-9/ICD-10;
        2. Admission, Discharges and Death procedure;
        3. Statistical analysis;
        4. Accident and Emergency records;
        5. X-ray;
        6. GOPD Records;
        7. COPD Records;
        8. Patient Records Library services with supporting patient master index services;
        9. Ward Clerical Services;
        Note the teaching facilities and area must be approved and accredited by HRORBN.
      2. The department should be headed by a licensed Health Information Officer with a minimum of ten (10) years working experience. In addition to a post Higher Diploma qualification in relevant field.
  2. TECHNICIAN PROGRAMME
    1. Head of School must be:
      1. A licensed diploma holder with ten (10) years working experience.
    2. Teaching staff:
      1. A minimum of four (4) licensed Higher National Diploma in Health Information Management with five (5) years working experience.
      2. A post graduate qualification relevant to the officer’s teaching subject.
      3. Officers must be on full-time contract with the Institution.
    3. Lecture Rooms:
      1. A minimum of three (3) lecture rooms, each with at least fifty seating capacity.
      2. A hall of 150 – 200 seating capacity during examination.
      3. A library equipped with relevant books to the programme, fifty (50) readers capacity.
      4. A computer laboratory equipped with a minimum of twenty-five (25) systems and connected to the internet. Additionally, there should be a printer, photocopying machine and a projector for teaching purpose.
    4. Practicing Area:
